Former CIA Analyst Charged: Alleged Secret Dealings for South Korea

Daniel Kim Views

U.S. Federal Prosecutors have indicted Sue Mi Terry, a prominent North Korean expert and former CIA analyst of Korean descent, on charges of acting as a representative for the South Korean government.

Yonhap News

According to The New York Times (NYT), the New York Federal Prosecutors allege that Sue Mi Terry engaged in activities on behalf of the South Korean government in exchange for expensive dinners and luxury handbags.

However, it is reported that Terry’s attorney has firmly denied these allegations.

Born in Seoul in 1972, Terry moved to the United States and was raised at the age of 12 after losing her father at the age of 4. It is known that her interest in North Korea was sparked by her memories of her mother-side grandfather, who was of North Korean descent, whom she lived along with her mother after her father’s death.

She has worked at various institutions, including the CAIA, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the National Intelligence Council (NIC), and the Wilson Center.
