Flight operations were temporarily halted at Frankfurt Airport in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Local media such as HR and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported that “climate activists breached the airport perimeter and occupied the runway.”
Six activists from the German environmental organization Letzte Generation staged a protest on the runway, holding posters that read Oil kills.
Frankfurt Airport announced on social media that aircraft takeoffs and landings are currently disrupted. The airport also noted that some flights had been canceled and advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
The campaign group Last Generation has announced protests across Europe, North America, and Germany. The organization demands the German government commit to international treaties phasing out fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal by 2030.
On the 24th, activists protested at Cologne Bonn Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia. During that demonstration, activists glued themselves to the runway, disrupting flight operations for approximately three hours.
