Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has indicated a willingness to compromise to reach an agreement on hostage negotiations.

Gallant stated, “In carrying out our moral and ethical duty – to return the hostages to their homes, painful compromises are required” at the memorial service, according to The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.

He emphasized that not all goals can be accomplished through military action alone and stressed the importance of recognizing that force is not the only solution.

The remarks were made ahead of the hostage negotiations that are set to resume between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Qatar. This marks the first high-level negotiation since Hamas reportedly executed six hostages in late August. CIA Director William Burns will mediate the meeting, while Mossad Director David Barnea will lead the Israeli negotiating team.

The Jerusalem Post reported that, following the assassination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar earlier this month, the U.S. and Israel are cautiously optimistic about the possibility of negotiations. However, there remains uncertainty over whether Hamas will agree to release the hostages.
