The South Korea’s Presidential Office convened a security-situation briefing in response to North Korea’s launch of multiple short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) in the early Tuesday morning.

The presidential office announced that the National Security Advisor led the security situation briefing to discuss the recent SRBM launches.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the military detected several SRBMs fired from Sariwon in North Hwanghae Province towards the East Sea at approximately 7:30 AM.

Experts suggest that North Korea’s missile launch, coinciding with the start of the U.S. presidential election, is likely aimed at reinforcing its status as a nuclear power and gaining leverage for future negotiations with the next U.S. administration.
