LG AI Research has appointed two new co-heads of research: Dr. Hong-lak Lee, vice president and chief AI scientist, and Dr. Woo-hyung Lim, a senior researcher leading the Data Intelligence Lab.
LG describes Dr. Lee as a globally renowned scholar in machine learning and deep learning. Ranked among the world’s top 10 AI researchers, he also holds a professorship in computer science and engineering at the University of Michigan.
In his new role, Dr. Lee will spearhead LG’s Global AI Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a focus on developing next-generation AI technologies and recruiting top talent globally, according to LG.
The company expects Dr. Lee to play a crucial role in integrating cutting-edge AI advancements into LG’s research initiatives while identifying and attracting world-class AI talent.
Dr. Lim, joining as co-head, is an expert in machine learning and speech recognition. He has been at the forefront of applied AI research using LG’s hyperscale AI model, Exaone, contributing significantly to solving real-world problems across LG affiliates and various industries.
In his new position, Dr. Lim will oversee the institute’s operations in Korea and work on expanding Exaone-based AI services across LG’s diverse business portfolio.
