Doraemon Takes Over Hong Kong: A Summer of Fun and Film!

Daniel Kim Views

The famous Japanese character Doraemon will land in Hong Kong from July 13 to August 4.

According to Timeout, Hong Kong’s creative brand AllRightsReserved (ARR) is collaborating with Fujiko Pro to host a large-scale Doraemon exhibition in Hong Kong. The exhibition, named 100% Doraemon & Friends, celebrates the 90th anniversary of the birth of Doraemon’s creator, Fujiko F. Fujio.

The free outdoor exhibition will take place in various locations in Hong Kong, centered around the Avenue of Stars and Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. At the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, visitors can see the world’s largest 12-meter-tall Doraemon and various life-sized Doraemon sculptures.

The Avenue of Stars will feature an exhibition that honors the Hong Kong film industry, showcasing Doraemon dressed in a suit walking the blue carpet with 13 stars from the Hong Kong film industry.

At the paid exhibition on the 6th floor of K11 Musea, a specially made Doraemon animation short film for Hong Kong will be screened. It will also feature immersive installations and scenes from the Doraemon movies.

Furthermore, in collaboration with Hong Kong’s railway company MTR, a Doraemon-themed station is being prepared and three Doraemon-themed trains will be operated during the exhibition.

Hong Kong garnered attention by hosting the world’s first Doraemon drone show on May 25 to promote the exhibition.
