Tragic End at Triathlon: Man in His 30s Found Dead After Swimming Segment

A man in his 30s who participated in the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Cup Triathlon went missing during the event and was later found dead.

According to police and other officials, the 8th Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Cup Triathlon, featuring the Great Man Half Race, took place on August 25 at Dangnam-ri Island in Daishin-myeon, Yeoju-si, Gyeonggi Province. The race began at 6:50 a.m.

A man in his 30s who participated in the Gyeonggi Province Governor’s Cup Triathlon went missing during the swimming segment of the event, which started around 7:50 a.m. on August 25.

Following a missing person report, rescue teams searched and found the man in the Namhan River near Dangnam-ri Island at approximately 10:25 a.m. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Gyeonggi Province Triathlon Association organized the triathlon with support from Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Provincial Sports Council, and the Korea Triathlon Federation. It was scheduled to proceed with the cycling and running segments after the swimming portion.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the man’s death and will review whether the event organizers adhered to safety regulations.

The event was reportedly halted following the discovery of the man’s body during the swimming segment.

Police plan to investigate both the cause of the man’s death and whether the event organizers followed appropriate safety protocols.
