Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, personally test-drove a vehicle carrying a new 240mm multiple rocket launcher system aimed at the capital region of South Korea, instructing the enhancement of artillery combat power.

The Korean Central News Agency reported on the 13th that “Kim guided on-site the important defense industry companies under the Second Economic Committee on the 11th and 12th”.

Kim inspected the production site of the transporter erector launcher (TEL), a vehicle for the MRL, and checked this year’s production plan and performance so far.

He said, “The automation system of the MRL vehicle has been materialized at a high level. The platform carriage was well made with supreme quality to secure the maximum combat effectiveness of the 240mm rocket launcher system,” and ordered to “accelerate the enhancement of our military’s artillery combat power by increasing productivity through the improvement of scientific and technological power and constant innovation”.

He continued, “To produce our style of rocket launcher vehicles that are efficient and reliable, it is important to consistently proceed with the project to improve the level of modernization in the production process,” and said, “We need to renew the goal of modernizing the production process with a focus on improving the performance of the vehicles.”

The news agency reported that Kim showed great interest in newly developed sniper weapons, including sniper rifles, at the enterprise that produces key sniper weapons and even released a photo of him shooting it.

The news agency reported that Kim inspected the technically renewed 240mm rocket launcher weapon system on the 10th and observed the guided rocket’s test firing. North Korea plans to deploy the new 240mm rocket launcher to the military this year.
