Weapons for Defense, Not Dollars: North Korea’s Stance on Arms Exports Revealed!

Kim Yo Jong, Deputy Director of the Workers’ Party of Korea and sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has claimed that North Korea’s alleged weapons exports to Russia are not for export but against South Korea.

In a statement released through the Korean Central News Agency on the 17th, Deputy Director Kim stated, “I want to address the adversary-created rumors that the weapons systems we produce are for export to Russia that are confusing public opinion.”

She called the theory of weapons trade between North Korea and Russia “the most absurd paradox” and claimed, “We have no intention of exporting or revealing our military technology anywhere.”

She emphasized that “the tactical weapons such as ballistic missiles and missiles that we recently revealed are made for only one mission,” and “we do not hide the fact that their purpose is to prevent Seoul from making rash decisions.”

She also stated, “It’s not about advertising or exporting, but about perfecting the war readiness and deterrent of our military, and making it impossible for the enemy to overcome the military inferiority.”

She assured, “As the hostile forces openly carry out their sinister political prayers against our country, we will carry out our necessary activities more actively in proportion.”

Recently, Kim Jong Un exhibited his interest in weapons system development by conducting on-site guidance in the military industry sector.

Some analysts suggest that North Korea is not only revealing its weapons production and supply capabilities for military purposes but also with the possibility of exporting to Russia in mind.

To this, Professor Yang Moo Jin of the University of North Korean Studies analyzed it as “a part of a battle over public opinion” and “an intention to block the spread of North Korea-Russia weapons trade rumors during Putin’s visit to China.”
