Amid escalating tensions over the assassination of a Hamas political leader, which raised the possibility of a full-scale conflict between Israel and Iran, Donald Trump stated that if he were president, retaliation would definitely not happen.
According to the Times of Israel, American conservative political commentator Benny Johnson posted a video of Trump speaking at a campaign rally on social media.
In the video, Trump said, “I’m hearing there’s going to be an attack tonight by Iran, Israel’s going to be attacked tonight, I’m telling you right now I hear it just through the same waves, there’s no top secret information.”
“If I were president, nobody would be talking about that word because it wouldn’t happen, 100 percent – but when you have [Nancy] Pelosi, you have [Adam] Schiff, you have all these people, I mean when you have people like [Chuck] Schumer,” Trump added.
Meanwhile, Iran and Israel are on the brink of all-out war.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement asserting Iran’s “right to retaliate” against Israel, citing the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil as justification.
While Israel does not deny its involvement in the assassination of Haniyeh, it has underscored its readiness to retaliate if Iran launches a counterattack. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited an Air Force underground bunker that day, emphasizing the need to prepare for all possibilities, including swiftly transitioning to offensive operations.
In response, the U.S. convened a National Security Council meeting to prevent a full-scale conflict between the two parties. The White House announced that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on strategies to support Israel in anticipation of possible further attacks from Iran and Iran-aligned forces.
