Federal Election Commission (FEC) data revealed that Harris’s campaign spent $174 million last month, nearly three times the $61 million spent by Trump’s campaign. Both campaigns directed their spending toward advertising, public rallies, local visits, and staff salaries.
Harris’s campaign also outpaced him in fundraising. In August, Harris raised $190 million, compared to Trump’s $45 million.
Analysts believe Harris’s fundraising success is due to her emergence as the new Democratic candidate after President Joe Biden decided not to seek re-election. Many Democrats who had previously been hesitant to contribute have rallied behind Harris, leading to a significant gap in fundraising totals.
However, despite the financial disparity, Trump has proven resilient in past elections. In 2016, he won the presidency despite being outspent by Hillary Clinton. Given this historical precedent, it’s unclear whether Harris’s financial advantage will significantly influence the race’s outcome.
