23 Nobel Prize-winning economists have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate.
CNN reported on Wednesday that a group of esteemed economists expressed in a joint letter their belief that Vice President Harris would be a far better steward of the U.S. economy than candidate Trump.
They further stated, “While each of us has different views on the particulars of various economic policies, we believe that, overall, Harris’ economic agenda will improve our nation’s health, investment, sustainability, resilience, employment opportunities, and fairness and be vastly superior to the counterproductive economic agenda of Donald Trump.”
The economists warned that Trump’s economic policies, including high tariffs on allies and aggressive cuts to corporate and income taxes, will likely lead to inflation, more significant budget deficits, and greater inequality.
They voiced concern that Trump poses a threat to the rule of law and economic and political stability, which are critical factors for financial success.
The signatories include this year’s co-recipients of the Nobel Prize in Economics, Professors Daron Acemoglu and Simon Johnson from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and last year’s winner, Professor Claudia Goldin from Harvard University.
In June 2016, a group of 16 Nobel laureates in Economics, led by Joseph Stiglitz, released a joint letter asserting that then-Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s economic policies were superior to those proposed by Trump.
