North Korea has announced the deployment of 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers to the front lines. In response, the Ministry of National Defense stated on the 5th that they believed this move was intended to attack or threaten South Korea.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesperson Lee Sung Jun said in a regular morning briefing that “U.S. intelligence agencies are continuously monitoring and tracking North Korea’s weapon development trends.”

He added, “We need to verify the performance and operational status of the weapon systems North Korea has publicly reported.”

When asked if this poses a real military threat, Lee explained that missiles are deployed and utilized based on their range, and deploying them near the border likely indicates that they do not have a long range. He noted that they consider these ballistic missiles to be shorter than short-range.

Regarding any prior movements related to the launchers, Lee mentioned that they had detected movements related to the gathering for the event the day before. He also said that there have been multiple instances where North Korea has publicly disclosed the production of mobile launchers (TELs).

KCNA reported that North Korea held a ceremony in Pyongyang to deliver 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers to its frontline units. The launchers are believed to be the Hwasong-11Ra, a close-range ballistic missile system.

In his speech, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un emphasized the strategic importance of these new weapons. He stated, “These armaments are now being deployed to our military and will play a crucial role in our activities along the border regions of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This is just the initial phase of our broader plan to enhance our missile forces at the front.”

Kim further noted, “Each year, we will unveil new generations of armed equipment to the world without reservation. This approach serves as a significant deterrent against potential conflicts.
