Recent reports indicate growing internal unrest in North Korea as flood recovery efforts in the Amnok River region are hampered by ongoing economic challenges linked to international sanctions. In response, the North Korean government appears to be leveraging the situation to bolster internal cohesion, focusing on rallying support around leader Kim Jong Un.

On Sunday, the country’s state-run newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, encouraged loyalty to Kim’s ideology and leadership in an editorial titled “Let Us Firmly Unite Around the Party Central Committee and Vigorously Showcase the Strong Advance of a Powerful Nation’s People.”

The editorial stated, “It is our unique national tradition in Juche Korea for the entire population to unite with a single heart and mind around the leader and to support his ideology and guidance steadfastly.” It extolled Kim, noting, “The foundation that strengthens our people’s belief in victory is the profound pride and self-respect of being citizens of a dignified and powerful nation under the leadership of a great leader.”

The article further emphasized, “As patriotic fervor rises, our nation grows stronger. By dedicating ourselves to advancing a powerful Korea, we will achieve remarkable successes in all fields and proudly display our nation’s dignity and status to the world.”

It also stressed that “All workers, party members, and laborers must become creators of achievements in this historic struggle, which leads our unwavering belief and efforts towards the ideal of a prosperous and powerful nation following the Party Central Committee’s leadership. The leaders must always be aware that the fate of party policies and their respective sectors rests on their shoulders, and must demonstrate precision, responsibility, and dedication in fulfilling their assigned duties.”

The newspaper urged party members to show a firm ideological resolve to repay the Party Central Committee’s trust with loyalty and action. It called for active participation in patriotic efforts to secure a promising future, emphasizing the importance of dedicating one’s life to the homeland with pride.

North Korea uses its distinct slogan and political rhetoric to promote unity through propaganda. The Rodong Sinmun highlighted the need for party organizations to elevate the slogan “Let Us Unite for Patriotism!” and, with collective strength and unity, to confront and overcome current challenges.

Along with the Korean Central News Agency, the Rodong Sinmun has consistently published such messages, reinforcing the call for unity around Kim Jong Un. This editorial appears at a time of deepening economic crisis and flooding, aiming to stabilize the North Korean populace and convert internal turmoil into an opportunity for regime consolidation.
