Poll Shock: Yoon’s Approval Rating Falls to 25.8% Amid Growing Discontent

inews24 Views

A recent poll revealed that President Yoon Suk Yeol and the People Power Party have reached their lowest approval ratings since the administration began.

Presidential Office of South Korea

On September 30, Realmeter released the results of a public opinion poll for the fourth week of September (conducted from September 23 to 27, targeting 2,507 adults nationwide, commissioned by Energy Economics News). The poll indicated that Yoon’s approval rating dropped by 4.5 to 25.8%, while disapproval rose by 4.6 to 70.8%.

These approval and disapproval ratings represent the lowest and highest levels, respectively, since the start of the administration. Realmeter noted, “The positive evaluation hit a record low once again after just two weeks (27.0% in the second week of September). This drop can be attributed to unproductive meetings with party leadership, factional conflicts within the ruling party, and growing concerns about the “Kim Keon Hee risk,” which led to instability even among core conservative supporters.”

Yoon’s approval rating fell in all regions except Daegu and Gyeongbuk (which saw a 3.3 percentage point increase). Among age groups, only those in their 30s (who experienced a 3.9 percentage point increase) saw a rise, while all other age groups declined.

Meanwhile, in a separate poll conducted on September 26 to 27 with 1,003 adults nationwide, the People Power Party’s approval rating fell by 5.3 percentage points to 29.9%, while the Democratic Party of Korea rose by 4.0 percentage points to 43.2%.

The People Power Party’s approval rating dropped into the 20% range for the first time since Yoon’s administration. Their support decreased across all regions and age groups except those in their 30s. On the other hand, the Democratic Party saw an increase in all areas except for Gwangju and Jeolla.

Other party results showed the National Innovation Party’s approval rating rose by 0.1 percentage points to 9.2%, the Reform Party fell by 0.2 percentage points to 4.3%, and the Progressive Party increased by 0.6 percentage points to 1.8%. The percentage of respondents with no party affiliation stood at 9.3%.

The opinion poll used random digit dialing (RDD) methods, with 97% conducted via mobile and 3% via landline, using an automated response system (ARS). The response rates were 2.7% for the presidential approval rating survey and 2.6% for the party support survey. The margin of error is ±2.0 percentage points and ±3.1 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95% for both.
