North Korean leader Kim Jong Un convened a Defense and Security Meeting on the same day to address the recent drone incident in Pyongyang, according to the state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun. The paper reported that the meeting also focused on critical issues surrounding war deterrence and the exercise of self-defense rights.

During the meeting, officials presented a series of reports, including a comprehensive analysis from the Director of the Reconnaissance General Bureau and a military response plan from the Chief of General Staff regarding what was described as severe provocations against North Korea’s sovereignty. According to the report, additional reports covered the modernization of military equipment, production achievements from the party’s military industry, and the state of information operations.

While Kim Jong Un outlined the immediate direction of military activities to protect the country’s sovereignty and security interests, specific details about the countermeasures were not disclosed. Rodong Sinmun noted that Kim evaluated the data and recommendations from various defense and security agencies, emphasizing the party and government’s firm political and military stance, though further specifics were withheld.

Key figures in North Korea’s military leadership attended the meeting, including Defense Minister No Kwang Chol, Secretary of the Central Committee Jo Chun Ryong, Chief of General Staff Ri Yong Gil, and the Deputy Chief of the General Staff Ri Chang Dae, who also serves as Director of the Reconnaissance General Bureau. Senior commanders from the artillery and electronic warfare divisions were also present.

The discussions likely centered on North Korea’s military response strategies in light of heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula following the recent drone incident in Pyongyang.
