South Korean tourists must know about Trader Joe’s popular souvenir seasoning when purchasing.
Incidents involving inspection and confiscation at Korean customs are arising due to “Everything but the Bagel Sesame” from Trader Joe’s. It is reported that South Korean tourists bought the seasoning as a souvenir. Such seasoning has gained popularity in South Korea through influencers and social media. It quickly became one of the must-buy gifts when visiting the United States.
The problem is that this seasoning contains a small amount of poppy seeds. Although a certain amount of poppy seeds is allowed for consumption in many countries, including the United States, they are completely banned in South Korea.
There have been numerous instances where people unknowingly purchased Bagel Sesame Seasoning as a gift and brought it back. Consequently, their luggage was inspected at South Korean customs. If they were unlucky, they had to go through appropriate consequences.
For instance, a traveler who recently returned from the United States with the Bagel Sesame was inspected at Incheon Airport. Her luggage was locked, and the seasonings were confiscated.
