The South Korean government expressed its full support for the international community’s call for a ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

On Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated through a spokesperson, “The government of the Republic of Korea welcomes and fully supports the statements released by countries such as the U.S.A. and France to call for an immediate 21-day ceasefire across the Israel-Lebanon border.”

The spokesperson added, “The ROK government strongly urges all parties concerned to accept the ceasefire proposal immediately and to continue striving to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.”

This comes after Western nations, led by the U.S. and France, introduced the ceasefire initiative at the UN General Assembly, seeking a 21-day pause in hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. However, Israel dismissed the proposal and carried out targeted airstrikes against a Hezbollah drone commander.
