Based on the results of a public opinion poll released by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 4th (local time), 73% of respondents expressed concerns that President Biden, who is 80 years old this year, is too old for the upcoming presidential election next year.

The concerns about President Biden’s age had also spread within his Democratic Party. Among respondents who identified themselves as Democratic Party members, two-thirds negatively reacted to Biden’s age.

WSJ diagnosed that these concerns are also affecting President Biden’s recent approval ratings. 57% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with President Biden’s performance, while 42% had a positive assessment.

Specifically, when it comes to the economy, 37% of respondents supported President Biden, while 59% opposed. Notably, 58% of voters responded that the economy has worsened over the past two years.

President Biden received relatively strong support in job creation, with 47% of voters giving a positive evaluation. However, this was still tied with respondents indicating dissatisfaction.

On the other hand, former President Donald Trump (77), who holds a dominant lead in the Republican presidential candidate race, is not significantly younger than President Biden. However, he appeared to be relatively less affected by age controversies.

Meanwhile, this recent poll was conducted among 1,500 registered voters from the 24th to the 30th of last month, shortly after former President Trump faced his fourth impeachment. The margin of error is ±2.5 percentage points.
