Harris vs. Trump: Kamala Takes a Narrow Lead Just Before the DNC

Yonhap News

Just a day before the Democratic National Convention officially nominates Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential candidate, a recent poll shows that Harris currently holds a slight lead over Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The Washington Post and ABC News A poll conducted a poll in collaboration with Ipsos from August 9 to 13, surveying 1,975 voters. The results show that Harris has 49% support in a potential matchup compared to Trump’s 45%.

When independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was in the survey, Harris still led with 47% support, followed by Trump with 44%, while Kennedy secured 5%. The poll has a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points.

Since Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s candidate, the party’s approval ratings have improved. Before Biden stepped down in early July, Trump had a 43% approval rating, Joe Biden had 42%, and Kennedy Jr. had 9%.

Harris plans to solidify support and maintain momentum at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, from August 19 to 22. Before the official nomination of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Harris embarked on a bus tour in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, alongside Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to rally voter support.
