According to Omdia on Wednesday, Microsoft plans to buy 485,000 NVIDIA Hopper chips throughout 2024. This year’s chip purchases will exceed last year’s by more than threefold.

In comparison, Meta purchased 224,000 of the same flagship NVIDIA chips this year.

Microsoft is also developing its custom AI chip, Maya, which was announced at last year’s Ignite conference.

Microsoft has focused on AI this year, enhancing its partnership with OpenAI and participating in a $6.6 billion funding round held in October.

Moreover, in September, the company signed a contract to purchase all the power generated by the notorious Three Mile Island nuclear power plant for 20 years to support its data center’s energy supply.

Microsoft’s stock closed at $437.39 after a 3.76% drop.
