Céline Dion Slams Trump for Using Her Song: ‘Unauthorized and Unwelcome’

inews24 Views

Iconic diva Céline Dion recently expressed discomfort with former president Donald Trump using her song at his campaign rally.

On August 10, The Guardian reported that Republican candidate Trump used Dion’s song, “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from Titanic, during a campaign rally in Bozeman, Montana.

In response, Dion’s team released a statement on X and Instagram accounts, emphasizing that the former president had not received permission to use the song, calling it “unauthorized use.”

The statement noted, “Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing ‘My Heart Will Go On’ at a Donald Trump / JD Vance campaign rally in Montana. This use is unauthorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use.” At the end of the statement, they sarcastically mentioned, “And really. THAT song?”

Due to different political views, Dion declined an invitation to Trump’s inauguration in January 2017.

Many online users mocked Trump’s campaign for choosing the Titanic theme song for the rally. Comments like “It seems to symbolize Trump’s sinking campaign” flooded X, along with photoshopped pictures of Trump and Vance in a Titanic.

This is not the first time Trump has faced controversy for using songs without permission at his rallies.

The disco group Village People, popular in the 1970s, demanded that Trump stop using their hits, such as “Macho Man.”

Famous bands like Queen and The Rolling Stones have voiced their annoyance over Trump using their songs.
