President Joe Biden, facing pressure to step down as a candidate, has announced a policy fund of over $1.7 billion to aid the electric vehicle industry, focusing on crucial swing states. This move is evaluated to win over the voters in these decisive states while highlighting the Biden administration’s green policy agenda.
On the 11th, the White House announced a $1.7 billion investment to strengthen the electric vehicle supply network in eight states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia.
This subsidy will convert 11 existing factories into electric vehicle production facilities capable of producing one million units. It will be utilized in the electric vehicle supply network, including electric motorcycles, school buses, hybrid trains, and commercial electric trucks. Furthermore, $1.1 billion will convert Stellantis’ factories into electric vehicle facilities.
Biden stated, “Building a clean energy economy can and should be a win-win for union autoworkers and automakers.” and added, “This investment will create thousands of good-paying, union manufacturing jobs and retain even more—from Lansing, Michigan to Fort Valley, Georgia – by helping auto companies retool, reboot, and rehire in the same factories and communities.“
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said, “This announcement is a hallmark of the Biden administration’s industrial strategy, which is to bring manufacturing jobs back to America after years of offshoring.“
Such a plan from Biden seems like a desperate effort to boost his approval from voters. Despite his firm intention to run in the election, calls for his resignation continue within and outside the Democratic Party.
After the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, Biden plans to hold a press conference to counter speculations about him. This is his effort to overcome the controversy over his age by successfully holding a press conference. This press conference is expected to be a significant turning point in Biden’s candidacy.
