As the time approaches, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who has long been a political ally and friend of President Joe Biden, suggested that Biden is nearing a decision not to pursue a second presidential term.
The Washington Post cited the comments of three Democratic Party figures, including Pelosi. It mentioned that some Democrats are concerned that if Biden continues his campaign, it might ultimately lead to Donald Trump regaining the White House.
Since the first TV debate held on June 28th, there have been ongoing calls for Biden to step down as a candidate from within and outside the Democratic Party. Biden was perceived to have been significantly outperformed by Trump during the TV debate, and since then, calls for his withdrawal have grown louder, citing his advanced age and health conditions.
However, Biden clearly expressed his desire to stay in the race. But he canceled his schedule ahead of a campaign rally in Las Vegas on the previous day after testing positive for COVID-19.
Biden is currently in self-isolation at his home in Delaware after leaving Las Vegas. Meanwhile, another outlet, The New York Times, reported that Biden appears to accept he may have to leave the race.
The New York Times also quoted comments from someone close to Biden. The paper added that there is talk in Biden’s campaign that “reality is setting in” and that “it would not be a surprise if Mr. Biden made an announcement soon endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement.”
